Meet Georgia
Georgia Sigala, a Northwest Denver native, developed a passion for her community while in grade school. Georgia wrote an inspiring essay that she entered into a citywide essay competition, and was given the opportunity to represent her elementary school at a luncheon with Mayor Federico Peña. Her encounter with the Mayor planted a seed that inspired her to follow a path leading to a career in public service. As a student at George Washington High School, Georgia emerged as a leader of the student body, and recognized the need for community engagement and support in order to provide the resources that students need to go on to college and become successful in their chosen careers. In high school Georgia became a peer mentor for College Path participants from the Northwest Denver community, a pre-collegiate program at North High School for at-risk students. Her enjoyment of this role lead to her becoming a Para-professional for the Denver Public School system, helping Denver elementary school students learn to read and write. While continuing her education she became a School to Career Counselor for Denver Public Schools. Since then she has held the positions of Youth Corps Colorado Coordinator, helping youth with disabilities and/or at-risk gain opportunities otherwise not afforded to them, and Early Intervention Service Coordinator, where she helps families support and promote a child’s development within family activities and community life.City Council needs a fresh and modern approach to smart economic growth and sustainability. We need a leader with the right experience that will fight for residents and small businesses. Georgia is that leader with a proven track record of working to find the middle ground. Her negotiating, mentoring, and leadership skills have proven successful in her career path in the non-profit sector, but that’s not what drives Georgia. She is energized and motivated by the possibility that the greater good can prevail, and District 1 issues are the embodiment of that possibility. Georgia Sigala looks forward to the opportunity to make a difference in District 1, while assisting the city of Denver to flourish and succeed as a community and city.
“We can do better, we must do better, and we will be able to reconcile the historical significance of our communities with the ever-changing dynamics of socio-economic trends, all of which combine to make Northwest Denver one of the best places to live. I ask for your support and your vote - LET’S DO BETTER, TOGETHER!”
